How card value works

Market price is an asking price. Value is a calculation.

Most price guides show you one number: what sellers are currently asking on TCGPlayer. That's a useful anchor, but it isn't what your card is worth — asking prices run ahead of the market on hyped cards and lag behind it on quiet ones. What a card actually trades for lives in sold data.

Dexcatch values every card two ways. The market price you see here, free, is the TCGPlayer benchmark — the same commodity number every guide shows, updated daily. The Fair Price is Dexcatch's own calculation: TCGPlayer market, real eBay 30-day sold data, and pull economics — how structurally scarce the card is — blended into a single defensible number. The gap between the two is where deals and overpricing live, and it's what powers every DealCatch verdict.

Condition and printing matter enormously: these figures assume ungraded, near-mint, English raw copies — the pool the engine scores after filtering out graded, damaged, and non-English listings. A PSA 10 or a heavily played copy trades in a different market entirely.

Enormously. The prices here assume ungraded near-mint raw copies — the pool the engine scores after filtering out graded, damaged, and non-English listings. A graded copy or a heavily played one trades in a different market entirely.
